A terminal care center named Karunalaya Hospice established at Alappuzha in the year of platinum jubilee of S.D., Which started in 1927 at Chunanganvely for the aged, destitute and infirm. The people who lives in the streets and those who are about to die was a challenge and pain for the S.D., Which gave an inspiration to establish Karunalaya. From the beginning both men and women were received and now because of the limitations only receive the women of age 65 and above. We shelter and care the poor and terminally sick patients abandoned at the Medical college Hospital or lying helpless and uncared on the street, so that they can live the rest of their life peacefully and happily and have a noble end as precious human beings.
We are rendering all the services free of cost to its beneficiaries. We do not have any grant or help from the Government, but manage by the help of local donation and donation from the provincial house. So far we have received about 100 inmates of whom 50 died, some have recovered and went back to their home on their own will. At present 10 inmates are here and leads a happy peaceful life.
